CHESTNUT

Circulation on the first floor of this Chestnut Hill home was drastically improved.
To achieve this, the powder room that was occupying a much too prominent location was moved to the side and tucked away, thus creating a central circulation axis that gives direct access to all major first floor spaces.
In addition, the bearing wall and the stairway to the basement between the existing kitchen and laundry room were removed to create a large new kitchen. A closet under the existing stair to the 2nd floor was converted into a new stairwell to the basement, and a generous new laundry area was created on the 2nd floor by carving out space from an extra bedroom.

In a second phase, the third floor bathroom was renovated. An old tub, single sink and no storage space were inadequate for the two very active daughters of this family. The tub was replaced with a vanity with double sink with ample storage. In addition, a make up vanity was installed, providing even more storage. The single sink was replaced with a large shower by taking a hardly noticeble amount of space from the adjacent office.
